PARADE DETAILS
2024 theme:  Puppy Love

Joining us as a parade & costume contest participant?

Here is a list of things to help you be prepared!

  • ONLINE PRE-REGISTRATION for the walking parade requires a $35 donation per pooch, and each pooch is allowed up to 5 human handlers. Additional handlers will be charged $10 per person. On-site registration will be available at 10:30AM . However, online pre-registration is strongly advised.

  • PLEASE MAKE SURE TO CHECK IN AT THE REGISTRATION TENT (corner of Marigny & Jefferson) BEFORE 12PM IF YOU PRE-REGISTERED ONLINE. You will need to pick up your packet and swag bag at the registration tent and get arm banded. Our check-in volunteers will also give you a number to attach to your dog/float/costume so our judges will know who you are for the costume contest. You cannot participate with an arm band only.

  • PARADE LINE UP starts at 11AM at the intersection of Marigny and Lakeshore Drive (behind the registration tent). The parade will begin promptly at noon. We will have volunteers on hand to help you get lined up. Please follow their instructions as they are working with a specific order we give them. Please remember, this is a “walking parade,” we don’t allow anything motorized, including golf carts.  Strollers, wagons, and things without a motor to power them are allowed.

  • WATER STATIONS. We will have a watering station at the parade lineup for the pooches.  There will be three more along the route, but we encourage you to bring whatever your pooch will need to be comfortable while waiting in line.

  • IT MIGHT BE HOT, and there is no shade in the line up area. Please plan to bring an umbrella or source of shade while you wait if you think you might need that.

  • THROWS. We welcome fun throws! Come ready to throw your favorite things! (No throwing branded promotional items for your business unless you are registered as a "Walking Sponsor.")  Political, inappropriate or controversial/negative displays will not be permitted in the parade. Noisemakers such as confetti canons that create a pop or boom are not permitted.

  • POOCH PREP. Pooches must be up to date on all their shots and kept on a leash. Retractable leashes are not allowed. Aggressive animals or animals in heat will not be permitted to participate in the event.

  • LET YOUR CREATIVITY FLOW with the costumes!  We will be giving out awards for Best Dressed Duo (dog and walker look alike), Most Creative Float, Pack Pick (best coordination of float, walkers, dog), Female Dog Best in Theme and Male Dog Best in Theme. Awards will be handed out at the main stage once the parade ends.

  • STAY FOR THE FUN!  At the parade's end point, we will have a party!  We will have food, drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), kids’ activities, a vendor area, and DOG ADOPTIONS!

  • EMERGENCIES. If your pooch has an emergency while at the parade or party, you might consider going straight to MedVet at 3561 U.S. Hwy 190, Mandeville (across from Whole Foods).
